Interviewer: “There’s certain fans who see a gay subtext in all those long, intense gazes between Lex and Clark. What do you make of that?”
Michael: “I love it. In fact, if there’s a line where I look at Clark and I say [with intense gaze], ”If you need me, I’m there,” we laugh our asses off. It takes us 10 takes to get it out. Let the audience think what they want to think.”
John Glover: “There was a scene…was it the first season or the second season, when Michael had to help Tom tie his bow-tie? And they practiced and practiced and practiced.”
Allison Mack: “They’re so cute.”
John Glover: “They have a good time together!”
(From the S3 episode Commentary “Truth”.)
Tom on Clark and Lex:
“I think if there’s one common thread between the characters, it’s that they’re both searching for their identity, both trying to figure out who they are, and what their niche is in the world. And I think that, for both of us, we see what we want in each other to some extent.” (2004)

Lex Luthor/Michael Rosenbaum
Every time I see that last photo I wonder why the hell they stuck Michael in a cupboard for this photoshoot. Has he been sent to the corner for misbehaving? And it’s not even a cupboard, just some kind of weird architectural dead end. Or is there a door behind him at the end there? In which case that’s a crappy place to sit Michael, what if somebody wants to use that door? Get out of the way, and take that chair back to the dining room while you’re at it!
Yeah, I’ve given this too much thought.
Heh, and the carpet is somewhat dented by his feet. Maybe he was bored of being in his cupboard and was kicking it!
Michael: “I think in a lot of ways Lex doesn’t exactly know how to make someone feel comfortable, and he tries to be funny and charming and has a really dark sense of humour. Clark is so enthralled by him and this place that he lives in, yet Lex puts it down every chance he gets. So you see this guy who’s constantly putting himself down and saying “look, it’s not that great being rich. I want you to understand that just because I’m rich I still want you to look at me for who I am. No one else can.” I think Clark tries to understand that.”
From coolwhipdiva, who attended the BE Blowout convention in 2006.
“Rosenbaum was talking about how he pranks Tom Welling on set a lot. He gave as an example that one day when he knew Tom was trying to take a nap, he got a golf cart and a box of water bottles, and drove up to Tom’s trailer yelling “Water for Mr. Welling! Water for Mr. Welling!” and then threw the bottles at the door to wake Tom up. He said Tom just looked at him like, “Dude, I was trying to sleep.””
